The case against credits is what happened in March 2026, when Poe's free allowance was cut by roughly 90%, from about 3,000 compute points a day to about 300. Nobody's price changed; what a point buys did. That is the structural difference: with an allowance, the company you pay decides what your money is worth, and can revise it. With your own key you pay the provider's published rate, you see the usage in their console, and no third party sits between the number and you. It also means leaving costs nothing: the key was never ours to take away.

Is Calik AI cheaper than Poe?
It depends entirely on how much you use, which is the honest answer and also the point. Poe is a fixed monthly number that includes the model usage. Here you pay us $10 a month, or nothing on the free tier, and the model usage is metered by the provider at their price. Light use is dramatically cheaper this way; very heavy use of an expensive model can cost more than a Poe tier. The difference is that you can see exactly which it is, in the provider's own console.
Do I have to set up API keys?
Yes, and it takes about a minute for the free ones. That is the trade: a few minutes of setup buys you the provider's price instead of somebody's exchange rate. Five of the 27 providers hand out working keys with no card at all.
What happens to my work if I cancel?
The keys are yours, so they keep working in any other client. The account drops to the free tier rather than closing, and your conversations are on your device.
