Poe Alternative: Your Own Keys Instead of Compute Points

Poe and Calik AI both put many models behind one window. The difference is who owns the meter. On Poe you buy compute points from Quora and spend them on whichever model you pick. Here you hold the provider's own key and pay the provider directly.

What Poe is

Their description, not a caricature of it.

Quora's multi-model chat product. Six tiers as of August 2026: free, then $4.99, $19.99, $49.99, $99.99 and $249.99 a month, about 17% cheaper billed annually. Each tier buys an allowance of compute points, spent across 200+ models including GPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok, plus image and video models and creator bots.

Where Poe is the better choice

Poe is the better choice if you want one bill and no setup. There is no key to create, no console to visit and no provider account to open: you pay Quora and start typing. If you are new to this, or you use models occasionally enough that a $4.99 allowance covers a month, that convenience is worth real money and Calik AI's insistence that you go and get a key first will feel like homework.

Where this one is different

The case against credits is what happened in March 2026, when Poe's free allowance was cut by roughly 90%, from about 3,000 compute points a day to about 300. Nobody's price changed; what a point buys did. That is the structural difference: with an allowance, the company you pay decides what your money is worth, and can revise it. With your own key you pay the provider's published rate, you see the usage in their console, and no third party sits between the number and you. It also means leaving costs nothing: the key was never ours to take away.

Moving across, if you want to

  1. Get one key first. The fastest is Google AI Studio: a Google account, two clicks, no payment method at any point. That single key already reaches Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash.
  2. Paste it into the workspace and start. The free tier has no card and no expiry, so this costs nothing to try against real work.
  3. Add providers as you need them. There is a key slot per provider and they do not interfere, so a free Groq key alongside the Google one gives you two model families and Agent Mesh has something to compare.

Try it on your own key

Free tier, no card, no expiry, and five of the 27 providers hand out working keys at no cost. Nothing here asks you to cancel anything first.

Questions people ask first

Is Calik AI cheaper than Poe?

It depends entirely on how much you use, which is the honest answer and also the point. Poe is a fixed monthly number that includes the model usage. Here you pay us $10 a month, or nothing on the free tier, and the model usage is metered by the provider at their price. Light use is dramatically cheaper this way; very heavy use of an expensive model can cost more than a Poe tier. The difference is that you can see exactly which it is, in the provider's own console.

Do I have to set up API keys?

Yes, and it takes about a minute for the free ones. That is the trade: a few minutes of setup buys you the provider's price instead of somebody's exchange rate. Five of the 27 providers hand out working keys with no card at all.

What happens to my work if I cancel?

The keys are yours, so they keep working in any other client. The account drops to the free tier rather than closing, and your conversations are on your device.

Does Calik AI have 200 models like Poe?

94, from 27 providers, and no creator bots. Poe's count includes community bots built on top of the same underlying models. On the models that matter for work, the two lists overlap almost completely.

Can several models answer one question, like Poe's bots?

That is what Agent Mesh is for, and it goes further than asking twice: the models read each other's answers, say what they think is wrong, and converge on one result with the disagreement left visible. It is in the free tier with up to two agents.
